The editors of the foucaultblog are pleased to feature a selection of pictures from the series Heterotopia by Vincent J. Stoker. The French artist doesn't refer explicitly to Foucault, but his photographic investigation into "other places" seems like a visual account of the "heterotopology" that's proposed in the lecture Des espaces autres (1967), published in 1984. Although heterotopia is just a marginal concept in Foucault, it has provoked a vast number of scholarly as well as artistic interpretations and applications. The artist explains his take on heterotopia and presents eight quintessential photographs from his series.
